Some teachers say that it is imperative while meditating to stay awake during the meditation. In the meditation portion of your chikung classes people sometimes fall asleep. Which is the more helpful practice in meditation: to stay awake or to fall asleep?

Most meditative practices which require a clear consciousness for maintaining the state of emptiness and which use praying, chanting, visualizing, and/or thinking about the Tao encourage practitioners to keep awake during meditation. During meditation our brain system opens all channels for forces nearby especially when the body's‘s chi protective system is not mature enough. Thus teachers of the above types of meditation practice require meditation students to stay awake to avoid being affected by these forces and spirits.

However our type of practice specializes in strengthening our chi protective system first. This, coupled with the assistance of the teacher's‘s forces and the forces in the center means that beginners will not be affected by such negative forces during their meditation. In this way, having students sleep in meditation is a very effective way to rearrange, develop and store all the chi energy generated during the practice without being affected by any external influences.
